Regina, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors gutted out their fourth straight win, kicking off 2024 in style in Regina.
Ethan Semeniuk scored the overtime winner for the Warriors in a 5-4 win over the Pats at the Brandt Centre on New Year's Day.
"It feels great, especially after the third period that we had, we just needed to get it done, so it was awesome," Semeniuk said after the win.
Semeniuk's goal came after the Warriors gave up a 4-2 lead late in the third period.
Atley Calvert had a goal and three points, while Martin Rysavy scored twice and Rilen Kovacevic picked up his first goal as a Warrior in the win.
Brayden Schuurman, Lynden Lakovic and Kalem Parker had two assists each for the Warriors.
"It was one of those nights that looked really sloppy from both sides right from the start, but at the end of the day, stuck with it and found a way in overtime," Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
The Pats struck first midway through the first period on a goal from Jaren Brunson.
The Warriors answered back with a power play goal from Rysavy only 3:31 later.
Rysavy would put the Warriors in front with his second power play of the period and 13th of the season with just 59 seconds left in the first.
A back-and-forth second period ended with the Warriors extending their lead on Kovacevic's 11th of the season with 46 seconds remaining in the frame.
Regina cut the lead back down to one with 7:53 left in the third on a goal from Tye Spencer.
The Warriors moved back in front by two when Atley Calvert banked in his 22nd of the season with 2:14 to play.
Regina scored two goals from Sam Oremba and Spencer in 24 seconds to send the game to overtime.
With 3:35 gone in the extra period, Semeniuk buried his sixth of the season to win the game.
"The past couple of wins have been good, they've been hard working wins, we've been doing things the right way and if we continue to do things the right way, we'll win a lot more games," Semeniuk said.
The Warriors have now won four straight games, improving their record to 22-14-0-2 on the year and sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference.
Moose Jaw is off now until Friday when they host the Prince Albert Raiders at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
