Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

With a busy three games in four nights road trip on the horizon, the Moose Jaw Warriors will be looking to set the tone for the week as they head into the Brandt Centre on Wednesday to face the Regina Pats.

"It's going to be big, we're going to come out strong," Warriors defenceman Denton Mateychuk said. "We've been building up since our win against Med Hat, so we're ready to go."

The Warriors have been off since skating to a 4-3 overtime win over the Medicine Hat Tigers last Friday.

While the team will be well rested, they've kept the pace up in practice over the past few days, which is something they'll be looking to carry over into Wednesday's game action.

"I believe in practice how you play and we're practicing hard and playing fast and that's going to translate into games," Warriors forward Atley Calvert said.

"When we come ready to practice, it's going to translate into the games," Mateychuk added. "The drills that our coaches have been running for us, they have a really positive effect on us and also help us in the game."

Last Friday's win snapped a four-game slide for the Warriors and helped return some confidence to the team.

"It was a big win for us, we can build off that a lot and it's definitely going to help our confidence," Mateychuk said.

The Warriors will be facing a Regina Pats team that also ended a seven-game losing skid last week when they swept a weekend home-and-home series with the Swift Current Broncos.

Moose Jaw won its only meeting with the Pats so far this season, topping them 3-2 at Mosaic Place on Oct. 8

Going in the Brandt Centre, the Warriors will be looking to slow down the Pats' attack right from the opening puck drop.

"We always ramp it up another level when we play the Pats, so it's going to be fun going into their barn and it's a must-win game for us," Calvert said.

"We've got to start fast. Our starts haven't been the best this year and we just got to start right on the gas pedal right away."

Mateychuk agreed that the Warriors need to be on top of their game right from the opening puck drop, but also carry that through to the third period.

"We need to play a full 60 minutes," he said.

The Warriors and Pats face-off at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at the Brandt Centre. Tune into Country 100 for all the action, starting with the Pre-Game Show at 6:40 p.m.

After Wednesday's game, the Warriors will travel to Alberta for games against the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Medicine Hat on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
