Pats and Warriors Meet at the Brandt Centre in Trans-Canada Highway Battle

Regina, Sask. - Tonight, the Trans-Canada Highway battle hits the Brandt Centre as the Regina Pats (4-7-0) host the Moose Jaw Warriors (4-6-0) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

The Pats began their six game homestand with a 7-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, completing the home-and-home sweep. Regina set season highs in goals scored in a contest (7) and goals in a period (3) on Saturday, while the club recorded a season high 48 shots on net and 19 in the third period in their 4-1 win on Friday in Swift Current.

Ryker Evans (1G-3A), Connor Bedard (2G-1A), Logan Nijhoff (2G), Tanner Howe (1G-1A) and Tom Cadieux (2A) all recorded multi-point efforts while Matthew Kieper made 24 saves on 27 shots for his fourth win of the season. The Pats went 2-for-4 on the power play and 4-for-7 on the penalty kill, while the final shots were 39-27 for the Pats.

On the other side, the Moose Jaw Warriors are coming off a 4-3 overtime win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, which snapped their four game losing-streak, with two of those losses to Winnipeg. The Warriors have three players recognized by NHL Central Scouting with Denton Mateychuk (A level), Eric Alarie (C level) and Jagger Firkus (C level) named to the Preliminary Players to Watch List.

Ryder Korczak's 13 points in 10 games is tied for 12th in league scoring, while he ranks third in faceoff wins with 142 to go along with a 61% faceoff win percentage. Braden Yager leads all rookies in goals with seven while his 12 points, five power play points and 29 shots on net rank third among rookies. Potential first round pick Denton Mateychuk has produced eight points in 10 games which is ninth among defencemen in points this season.

HEAD TO HEAD

This will mark the second of 10 meetings this season and the second of five in the first half.

Last season, the Regina Pats went 2-0-1-1 against the Warriors, recording six of a possible eight points in the season series. The Pats won 3-2 in overtime, 4-1 in regulation, while losing 5-4 in overtime and 3-2 in a shootout. The Pats had recorded at least a point in seven straight games prior to their season series opening loss to the Warriors on October 8th in Moose Jaw (5-1-1-1 vs. MJ over their last eight meetings).

The last time these two teams met was on October 8th in Moose Jaw, with the Warriors defeating the Pats 3-2. Matthew Gallant scored the game winning goal for the Warriors while goaltender Carl Tetachuk made 24 saves on 26 shots. Logan Nijhoff and Ryker Evans had the goals for the Pats in the loss.

Regina Pats defenceman Ryker Evans was named the week four WHL Player of the Week and as the only WHL player to be named to the CHL team of the week, scoring one goal and three assists, as well as a +6 rating in two games last weekend.

The Regina Pats finished the month of October with a 4-7 record, good for tied for fourth in the Eastern Division with eight points, while outscored 33-to-38 in 11 games...Pats power play went 10-for-41 (24.4%) while the penalty kill was 45-for-58 (77.5%)...Cole Dubinsky and Ryker Evans were tied for first in points with 12 in October, while Dubinsky led in goals (7) and Evans led in assists (10).

10: Consecutive games with a point (7G-5A) for Pats forward Cole Dubinsky is the longest point-streak by a Pat' this season and longest of his career...he has also scored in five straight games, which is the longest by a Pat' this season...he also holds the second longest active point-streak in the WHL this season and the second longest total...his five game goal-streak is the longest active streak in the WHL and tied for the longest total.

149: Faceoff wins for Pats captain Logan Nijhoff is second best in the WHL behind Prince Albert's Reece Vitelli (152)...he went 19-27 on the faceoff dot on Saturday against Swift Current and also tallied two goals, extending his point-streak to five games (3G/3A).

6: Total assists for Regina Pats Czech born defenceman Stanislav Svozil is fourth best among rookie defencemen in the WHL while his 27 shots on net this season is second among rookie defencemen, and fourth among all rookies...he has recorded at least an assist in six of 11 games this year.

58: Shots on goal for Regina Pats forward Connor Bedard leads the WHL...the Vancouver native has points in three of his last four games since he snapped his five game goalless streak and is averaging 5.27 shots on net per contest this season...he holds an 9.66% shooting percentage, along with with six goals and 10 points in 11 games this season.

12: Number of points (2G-10A) for Regina Pats defenceman Ryker Evans is tied for second amongst defenceman in in the WHL, while his 10 assists ranks tied for second as well...the Calgary, AB, native also ranks tied for fourth among defencemen in power play points with six.
