Giant Slaying (Again)

The Blazers have started the season in fine fashion, entering Wednesday's tilt with a sterling 8-1-0 record and riding a four-game win streak. Five skaters have recorded double-digit points for Kamloops, and netminder Dylan Garand has backstopped the team to seven victories in his eight starts, allowing a shade over two goals per game in that span.

Despite the stiff test ahead, the Winterhawks are a rejuvenated side after last weekend's late-game heroics against another high-flying club in Everett. Leading scorer Cross Hanas found the back of the net in that tilt, making it consecutive outings with a tally for the Texas native and spuring the team on to what could be a turning point in this young season. Portland will need to maintain that same level of desperation to top the Blazers and keep the good momentum rolling in their first foray north of the border.

Hanus Hits #200 In Style

It's a milestone night for one member of the 'Hawks as defenseman Clay Hanus looks set to play in game #200 in his WHL career. The veteran blueliner has donned a Portland sweater since the 2017-18 season, and now leads the defense corps on a nightly basis. With seven points in ten games this year, Hanus has shone offensively as well, ranking third on the team in scoring.

These milestones are always cause for celebration, but Hanus and his teammates will want to make sure they're celebrating with another "W" in their pockets as well.

Return of Dureau?

The Winterhawks' forward depth could be getting a nice injection of talent on Wednesday. Earlier in the week, 2020-21 leading scorer Jaydon Dureau was released from his ATO with the Syracuse Crunch and was reassigned to Portland, and could make his 2021-22 debut with the club as soon as Wednesday.

With the Winterhawks needing more goals and offensive creativity, the former 5th-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning could be just what they need to light the lamp more often.
