Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors are focusing on having a short memory heading into a two-game weekend.

The Warriors will head into Saskatoon on Friday night for a big showdown with the Blades before hosting the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday.

Coming out of Wednesday's loss to Brandon, Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said the message to the team was simple.

"Pick ourselves up and try again," he said. "The last thing you want this time of year is to feel sorry for yourself and stay down. We have games to play and a big one against Saskatoon."

Turnovers hurt the Warriors against the Wheat Kings and O'Leary said Moose Jaw needs to make sure it cleans that up against Saskatoon.

"We have to manage pucks when we have it, smart decisions and put it in a good place," he said.

The Warriors came out flying against Brandon, scoring in the first 64 seconds and also added a goal in the opening 90 seconds of the second period. Despite starting both periods strong, Moose Jaw couldn't ride the momentum.

Warriors forward Jagger Firkus said the team needs to stay locked in for the complete game.

"It's a frustrating game, but we learned a lot from that game, we need to play a full 60," he said. "We've got to start learning and start executing in the games."

Going into Saskatoon, the Warriors will face a Blades team that has won eight of its last ten games and has the second-most points in the Eastern Conference.

Saskatoon has allowed the fewest goals against in the Western Hockey League, so generating scoring chances and capitalizing on them will be key.

"It's pretty much shoot the puck," Firkus said. "The last couple of games, we haven't been shooting the puck as much as we need to be and we're passing up shots too many times, that's the big thing."

O'Leary said the Warriors need to be ready to work for their opportunities.

"We saw that in practice today and we did a good job of digging in," he said. "When you have an opportunity, snap the puck through the back of the net, when there's somebody open, put it on his tape, all these things matter, they add up over the course of a game."

The Warriors and Blades will face-off at 7 p.m. at SaskTel Centre on Friday night.
