March to playoffs continues as Blades welcome Warriors
March 3, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
A three games in three nights stretch begins for the Saskatoon Blades (39-13-4-1) as they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors (35-21-0-3) at SaskTel Centre.
It's Police Night inside the arena which is fitting considering how the Blue and Gold have recently laid down the law vs their opponents. Their most recent victory came Wednesday on home ice vs the Red Deer Rebels (38-17-1-3) 5-2, limiting the visitors to only ten shots in the process.
Forwards Egor Sidorov and Brandon Lisowsky each recorded two goals and three points in the win, while goalie Ethan Chadwick saw his record jump to 19-8-1-1.
Ever since last year's first round playoff matchup there is no love between the two provincial rivals. It's brewing into one of the WHL's most intense rivalries as both teams have their sights set on a deep playoff run. Locking horns for the fifth time this season, Saskatoon looks to climb back into the season-series trailing 3-1. This season has favoured the Warriors, but Saskatoon has the upper-hand in the past five going 15-5-2-0 against their neighbours to the south. The Bridge City Bunch sit third in the Eastern Conference with 83 points and a 39-13-4-1 record with the Warriors trailing in fourth ten points back.
Who to Watch
Dallas Stars prospect Conner Roulette has had Moose Jaw's number this year scoring six of his 21 goals against them. The Winnipeg, MB native has 51 points in 49 games this year, and is one assist shy of 100 in his WHL career. It's Roulette's first season in the Blue and Gold after being acquired in late August from the Seattle Thunderbirds that sent forward Kyle Crnkovic the other way. The 19-year-old winger brings elite skill to an already stacked Blades lineup and is bound to break his career-high 24 goals set last season.
Vitebsk, Belarus' own Egor Sidorov is gaining attention from scouts everywhere ahead of the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot sniper notched two goals and an assist Wednesday vs the Rebels and earned his first career Gordie Howe hat-trick as well. A fan-favourite in the Paris of the Prairies, Sidorov has three hat-tricks on the year, and leads the team with 35 goals and 15 powerplay markers. In 46 games, the 18-year-old sophomore has a career-high 68 points, almost double his 35 total set last year in 58 games.
Rookie forward Jordan Keller was named the Foursight Supply Player of the Month for his February dominance. The Sapporo, Japan product had three multi-goal games during the month and finished with nine points in 11 games. Through 55 games, the 5-foot-10 winger has 13 goals and 27 points and performed mightily in an increased role while the team dealt with several big injuries to their top forwards.
