
Pats Finally Break ICE, Win 5-3

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats completed their biggest comeback win of the season, overcoming a 3-0 deficit, defeating the Winnipeg ICE 5-3 on Friday inside the Brandt Centre.
The win marks the Pats first victory against the ICE since their move from Kootenay, snapping a 0-18-1-1 stretch since the 2019-20 season.
Connor Bedard led the way with five points (4G-1A) including the game winner in the third, while Stanislav Svozil (3A), Tanner Howe (1G-2A) and Zack Stringer (2A) chipped in with multi-point games. Drew Sim was stellar between the pipes, making 31 saves for his 25th win of the season.
The Pats allowed three unanswered Winnipeg goals in the opening seven minutes of the second period before scoring five unanswered goals, with three coming in the second stanza, as both teams were tied after two. The comeback win marks their 14th victory in comeback fashion as well as tying for the Pats largest comeback win of the season. They've overcame a 3-0 deficit three times this season.
For Winnipeg, they have lost two straight games for just the second time this season. They got goals from Vladislav Shilo, Matthew Savoie and Carson Lambos as well as 23 saves from Daniel Hauser in the loss.

First Period

Second Period
WPG 0-1 at 2:44 - Vladislav Shilo (13), unassisted // Shilo got the puck in the offensive zone, spun, and let a shot go that squeaked through Sim's five-hole to give the ICE a 1-0 lead early in the second period.
WPG 0-2 at 3:18 - Mathew Savoie (33), assisted by Connor McClennon and Jonas Woo // McClennon's original shot was stopped by Sim but the puck ended up on Savoie's stick and past a startled Sim extending the ICE lead to a pair at 2-0 34 seconds after taking the lead.
WPG 0-3 at 6:29 - Carson Lambos (11), assisted by Zach Benson and Matthew Savoie // Benson won a race to the puck at the Pats goal line, sent a pass to the front of the Pats net and Lambos one-timed the puck past Sim to give the ICE a three-goal lead at 3-0.
REG 1-3 at 7:12 - Connor Bedard (55), assisted by Tanner Howe and Zack Stringer // Stringer won a battle along the end boards, got the puck to Howe who passed to Bedard in front, who on his second attempt fired home the Pats' first marker now trailing 3-1.
REG 2-3 at 12:07 - Connor Bedard (56), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Riley Ginnell // Bedard carried the puck into the zone, passed to Svozil who returned the favour and Bedard finished it to pull the Pats within one at 3-2.
REG 3-3 at 18:43 - Tanner Howe (30), assisted by Stanislav Svozil and Connor Bedard // Bedard passed the puck to Svozil near the point, he carried the puck into the slot and instead of shooting, he passed off to Howe who let a shot go that squeaked through Hauser to tie the game up at 3-3 late in the second period.
Third Period
REG 4-3 at 1:35 - Conner Bedard (57), assisted by Stanislav Svozil // Just as a Pats powerplay expired, Bedard picked up the puck along the right boards and left a wrist shot go that beat a distracted Hauser to give him a hat-trick and the Pats their first lead of the game at 4-3 early in the third period.
REG 5-3 at 19:38 - Connor Bedard (58), assisted by Tanner Howe (EN) // Howe blocked a shot in the defensive zone and the puck went to Bedard who skated in on the empty net and sealed the game 5-3.

Connor Bedard scored four times and assisted on another to reach 119 points on the season (58G-61A). He leads the WHL in goals (58), tied for first in assists (61), while first in points (119) and shots on goal (298). He has 30 goals, 24 assists, and 54 points in 17 games since returning from the World Juniors. He has 28 points (13G-15A) in nine games since his 35-game point streak was broken on February 3.
Stanislav Svozil had three assists in the game. He has 30 points (4G-26A) in 17 games since returning from the World Juniors. He is one goal away from his career high of 10 that he set last year.
Tanner Howe scored and added two assists, which increases his career-best total to 30 goals and counting. He has 21 points (8G-13A) in his last 14 games.
Zack Stringer had two assists and has five points in his last four games (1G-5A).
The Pats have won five in a row overall and nine of their last 11 home games. Their five game winning-streak is a season best.
The Regina Pats grabbed their first victory against the Winnipeg ICE franchise, snapping an 0-18-1-1 streak against Winnipeg since their move from Kootenay for the 2019-20 season.
The Pats overcame a 3-0 deficit in the second period, tying for their largest comeback of the season.
