Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRANDON M.B. - The Brandon Wheat Kings 2nd period collapse led to a 6-3 win for the Red Deer Rebels.
The game started out with both clubs trading good scoring opportunities but Nick Jones and Chase Wutzke stood tall making quality stops to keep it scoreless after 20 minutes. Wheat Kings led shots on goal 12-7.
The second period didn't have much pace. Lots of stoppages and special teams play allowed the Red Deer Rebels to play their style of hockey scoring 4 goals. Ben King would score back to back powerplay goals to make it 2-0, then 48 seconds later Mats Lindgren would fire a shot from the left side point through Nick Jones to make it 3-0 Rebels. The Rebels would add one more with Mats Lindgren placing a shot from the point which Nick Jones would stop, but the rebound would go to Jayden Grubbe allowing Grubbe to score his 15th of the year to make it 4-0 Rebels. Rebels dominated the 2nd period shots 19-7.
Down 4-0, the Wheat Kings needed a couple to get some momentum. Nate Danielson scored his 30th of the year on the powerplay to get the Wheat Kings on the board, then Rylen Roersma added another to cut the Rebels lead in half. The Rebels would get an insurance goal with Jace Isley scoring just as a Red Deer powerplay expired to give the Rebels a 5-2 lead. Nolan Flamand would score on the powerplay with 2:31 to go but Kai Uchacz would erase any comeback with an empty net goal giving the Rebels a 6-3 win.
