November 3, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Moose Jaw Warriors News Release
The Moose Jaw Warriors battled but could not fight their way out of a first-period hole and fell 5-1 to the Prince Alberts Saturday at Mosaic Place.
Prince Albert controlled the pace of the opening period as they came up the ice quickly and went on the attack.ÃÂ They also rushed back defensively which broke up several rushes for the Warriors.
The Raiders opened the scoring at 5:49 when Aliaksei Protas made a cross-ice pass to set up Brayden Watts on the right side of the Moose Jaw crease.ÃÂ 16 seconds later Protas led a rush up the ice and finished the drive with the Raiders' second goal.
Moose Jaw had some chances but was not able to convert, instead, the Raiders picked up a late goal from Evan Herman to take a 3-0 lead.
Four minutes into the second period, Raiders 19-year-old Spencer Moe added another goal for the Raiders.ÃÂ This goal chased starting goalie Bailey Brkin from the game, he allowed four goals on 21 shots.
Prince Albert picked up a power-play goal from Aliaksei Protas just over a minute later to make it 5-0.
Moose Jaw had their opportunities throughout the second period.ÃÂ ÃÂ They were able to find their way to the top of the Rebels crease for chancing inside home plate, they outshot Prince Albert 13-8 in the period but they were not able to sneak a shot past goalie Carter Serhyenko.
Despite being in a hole, the Warriors kept pushing.ÃÂ They outshot the Raiders 23-15 in the final two periods and then got on the scoreboard with just over three minutes left in regulation when Ryder Korczak deflected a Cole Jordan shot from the blueline.
The Warriors are now off until next weekend when they will take on Winnipeg Friday and Swift Current Saturday at Mosaic Place.
Tickets are available at the Mosaic Place Box Office or online at www.mjwarriors.ca.
