SPOKANE, WA- The Prince George Cougars were shutout for the first time this season in their 6-0 loss to the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
17-year-old Campbell Arnold stopped all 27 shots the Cougars fired at him to record his first career shutout. Filip Krall led the Chiefs attack, scoring twice and finished with three points. Eli Zummack, Matt Leduc, Bear Hughes, and Brandon Reller also scored for Spokane.
The game's tipping point was in the middle frame where the Chiefs scored five goals on 14 shots and three of those five goals came inside the final two-minutes.
Jacob Herman made his second consecutive start in the Cougars crease and yielded six goals on 38 shots.
Spokane broke the scoreless deadlock with five-minutes remaining in the first period, as Filip Kral finished off a three-way passing play during a four-on-four sequence. The Chiefs then blew the game wide open in the second and never looked back.
Zummack doubled the Chiefs' lead on the power-play three-minutes into the middle stanza, then Kral picked up his second of the game just before the eight-minute mark to make it 3-0. It stayed 3-0 until the Chiefs struck three times in just over 90-seconds, as Leduc, Hughes, and Reller all found the back of the net before the buzzer sounded.
Game Notes: The two teams split the four-game season series, each team won once on the road and once at home. Marco Creta did not dress Saturday due to an upper-body injury; he's listed as day-to-day. The Cougars record against the U.S. Division slipped to 2-4-0-0 with the loss.
Next Up: The Cougars (4-11-0-1) go back home to face the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday, November 6th to start a three-game home stand. Single game tickets start at $13 and are available at the Treasure Cove Casino box office, or online at www.ticketsnorth.ca
