Hamblin's Hat Trick Helps Tigers Tame Royals 6-3

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers opened their BC road trip by defeating the Victoria Royals 6-3 on Saturday night.

James Hamblin scored his first career WHL hat trick while goaltender Mads Søgaard stopped 27 of 30 shots faced.

Forty-six seconds into the game, Ryan Chyzowski fired a shot into the top corner blocker side on Royals' goaltender Shane Farkas to give the Tigers an early lead. Chyzowski's 10th goal of the season was assisted by Brett Kemp and Daniel Baker.

Midway through the second stanza, Royals forward Gary Haden scored to bring the game to a 1-1 stalemate. The tie was short lived as Corson Hopwo scored his first goal of the season less than a minute later. Tyler Preziuso and Parker Gavlas combined on the play.

Late in the period, the Royals tied it up once again when Keanu Derungs scored on the power play. The Tabbies quickly responded with a power play goal of their own when Hamblin scored from the point to make it 3-2. Hamblin's first goal of the night was assisted by Jonathan Brinkman and Elijah Brown.

Early into the final frame, Brown sent Gavlas a rink wide pass and Gavlas buried it into the net to score his first goal of the season extending Medicine Hat's lead to 4-2. Baker also picked up an assist on the play.

Just over four minutes later, Kemp and Chyzowski combined to set up Hamblin to score his second goal of the night.

With less than five minutes to play in the game, Hamblin completed his hat trick and scored his ninth goal of the season on a play from Hopwo and Kemp.

While the Tigers were on the penalty kill late in the game, Royals forward River Fahey making the final score 6-3 for the Orange and Black.

Farkas turned aside 29 of the Tigers' 35 shots.

The Orange and Black are now 10-4-1-0 and they will travel to Vancouver to battle the Giants Sunday at 4 PM MT.
