
Warriors Dominate in D-Fenders' Territory

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - The defending NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (18-28) defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders (26-21) 116-97 at Toyota Sports Center Saturday night.
Darington Hobson notched a double-double, finishing with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Mychel Thompson recorded 25 points and 6 rebounds. Verdell Jones III posted 21 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds in the win over Los Angeles.
Vander Blue paced the D-Fenders with 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Kenneth Smith notched 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The Warriors held the D-Fenders to 26% shooting in the opening frame, while dominating in the paint (18-4) and capitalizing on second chance opportunities (6-0). Santa Cruz increased their distance from the D-Fenders in the second frame, leading by as many as 19 points, a lead they would carry into the break.
The Warriors would continue their strong play out of the locker room, outscoring the D-Fenders 38-26 in the third quarter and pushing the lead to 29 points to start the final frame. Santa Cruz would never relinquish their double-digit hold, cruising to a 19-point win.
Santa Cruz outrebounded Los Angeles (62-51), dished out more assists (34-20), notched more points in the paint (44-32), and capitalized on more second chance opportunities (14-11).
