D-Fenders Fall vs. Warriors

EL SEGUNDO - The D-Fenders fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors 116-97 tonight in El Segundo, CA.

Vander Blue (26 points) paced the D-Fenders (26-21). Speedy Smith recorded career highs of 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while Ryan Gomes (14 points) and Justin Harper (13 points, 16 rebounds) also scored in double-figures for Los Angeles.

Darington Hobson (26 points) led the Warriors (18-28). Mychel Thompson (25 points) and Verdell Jones (21 points) also reached the 20-point mark, while Terrence Drisdom finished in double-digits with 12 points.

A sloppy start for both sides left the Warriors up 26-21 at the end of the first. Blue had 14 points in the quarter for the D-Fenders. Santa Cruz took over in the second quarter, outscoring the D-Fenders 34-22 behind 11 points from Hobson. At the half, Los Angeles trailed 60-43.

The trend continued in the third quarter, with the Warriors outscoring the D-Fenders 38-26, led by Thompson with 12 points in the quarter. Los Angeles trailed 98-69 heading into the final frame. Los Angeles fought back in the fourth, outscoring Santa Cruz 28-18 behind 12 points from Smith, but the Warriors would hold on to win 116-97.

The D-Fenders shot .360 from the field, compared to .473 for Santa Cruz. The Warriors outrebounded the D-Fenders 62-51, tallying 44 points in the paint, while Los Angeles finished with 32.

Los Angeles heads to Texas to face the Legends on March 30th at 5:00pm PT.
