Walleye Pick up Seventh Win

Wheeling, WV- Five-goal second period leads Walleye to its seventh straight win 6-1 Friday night in Wheeling. Toledo has a season record of 7-1-0-0 and is 6-1-0-0 on the road. Wheeling is in Toledo Saturday night. Both teams finished a wide open first period with 14 shots on goal with goaltenders Cal Heeter for Toledo and Doug Carr of Wheeling turning in outstanding performances. The Nailers struck first with a goal from Cody Wydo just 1:55 into the second period. Tylor Spink (3rd) tied the game with a wrist shot at 8:41 of the second period. The power play found the scoreboard at 10:28 as A.J. Jenks (4th) deflected a shot from Jacob MacDonald into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead. Just 19 seconds after that goal Nolan Zajac (2nd) beat Carr with a one-timer and a 3-1 cushion. Tyson Spink dropped a pass to his brother Tylor who buried a wrist shot at 17:12 for his second goal of the game. Erik Bradford (1st) deflected a Dane Walters shot at 18:35 of the second period for Toledo's 5th goal of the period and 5-1 two-period lead. Jacob MacDonald (3rd) finished the scoring on a one-timer from the blue line at 3:39 of the third period. Walleye Notes: Goaltender Cal Heeter stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced and has a record of 4-0-0-0 on the season. Tyson Spink and Tylor Spink extended their point streaks to seven straight games. The only other team in Toledo ECHL history to start a season 7-1-0 was the 1993-94 Toledo Storm.
