Kalamazoo Wings News Release

BRAMPTON, ON, CA- Anthony Camara scored two goals in his Kalamazoo Wings debut, and Dajon Mingo added three assists, as the Wings earned a 5-2 victory over the Brampton Beast on Friday at Powerade Centre.

After needing more than half the period to generate their first shot on goal, Kalamazoo took advantage of the extra ice during their second power play try of the game and set up around the perimeter of the Brampton zone. As Mingo hauled in a pass, he steered the puck towards the goal, where Justin Taylor was waiting to re-direct the try into the back of the net for his second of the season.

Less than two minutes later, Brampton tied the game as David Pacan started a rush into the Wings' end, hit the brakes to create separation, and snapped a wrist shot that sailed through traffic and over the glove of Kalamazoo goalie Joel Martin.

Early in the second period and on the power play, Kalamazoo established possession at the Brampton blue line as Mingo and Tyler Shattock set up a give-and-go that opened space for Shattock at the top of the right circle to fire a wrist shot over the pad of Brampton goalie Zachary Fucale.

Eight minutes later, the Beast again equalized after Chris Leveille crashed the goal to poke home a loose puck that had eluded Martin in the crease.

The tie stood for 1:15, as the Wings re-toook the lead, courtesy of Camara. Kalamazoo's newest forward gathered the puck in his own end before carrying it coast-to-coast, and circling in the Brampton zone, where he wrapped around the net and stuffed the puck into the goal.

Kalamazoo kept on the gas during the third period and were rewarded 4:44 into the final frame. Camara raced off the bench and intercepted the puck in the Brampton end, and carried in uncontested on Fucale. Camara faked to the forehand and slid a backhander through the five-hole and gave Kalamazoo a 4-2 edge.

21 seconds later, a long shot by Mingo was fought off by Fucale, but the rebound leaked directly to the tape of Scott Henegar, who wired it into a wide-open goal, generating a game-high three-goal lead.

With Fucale on the bench in favor of an extra attacker, the Beast pulled to within two goals when Brandon Marino dropped a feed to a waiting David Vallorani, whose one-timer slipped over the glove of Martin.

With under two minutes remaining, Brampton continued to elevate their play, but the Wings withstood the late pressure and picked up the road victory.
