Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud ECHL affiliates of the Tampa Bay Lightning, have signed forward Anthony Camara to a standard ECHL contract, the team announced Friday.
Camara, 23, joins the Wings after spending the first three years of his career in the American Hockey League. A third round (81st overall) pick of the Boston Bruins in 2011, Camara spent his first two and a half seasons with the Providence Bruins before a trade in February that sent him to the Charlotte Checkers.
While with Providence, the 6-foot, 195-pound winger appeared in 150 games and tallied 35 points (12 goals, 23 assists) and 106 penalty minutes. After being dealt to the Checkers, he was able to generate three goals, five assists, and 17 penalty minutes in 15 games played.
Before turning pro, the native of Toronto spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Saginaw Spirit and Barrie Colts, while logging 245 career games, 122 points (56 goals, 66 assists) and 454 penalty minutes. During the 2012-13 season, he helped lead the Barrie Colts to an OHL finals appearance by notching 16 points in 16 playoff games.
In 2013, Camara was selected to represent Team Canada at the World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia and appeared in six games during the prestigious tournament.
The newest addition will wear number 38 and make his debut on Friday night against the Brampton Beast. The game can be heard on AM 1660 The Fan in Kalamazoo or at www.1660thefan.com/listen-live.
