ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (9-8-0) saw their five-game home winning streak come to an end on Saturday night at Germain Arena as the Toledo Walleye (5-8-2) rode a three-goal second period to a 3-1 victory.
After a scoreless first period that saw the Walleye out-shoot the Everblades 12-7, Toledo jumped on the Everblades for three goals in the middle period. Randy Rowe notched the first two of the goals picking up an even strength tally at 10:14, then collecting a power play goal at 14:52.
The Walleye then extended their lead to three goals at 17:34 on a quick shot by Peter LeBlanc that Everblades goaltender Bobby Goepfert initially stopped, but the puck flipped behind him and fell across the goal line despite his best effort to keep it out.
The Everblades hoped to grab some momentum in the third period and seemed to when Matt Pistilli notched a short-handed goal just 54 seconds into the frame. The play saw Pistilli race into the offensive zone on the right side before dragging the puck to the middle and letting a wrist shot from the slot sail into the upper left corner of the net for his eighth goal of the season and the team's fifth short-handed marker of the year.
Unfortunately that was as close as the Everblades would get as Toledo net-minder Joe Palmer, who took the loss a night before allowing eight goals, stood tall in net to earn his first win of the season after stopping 23 of 24 shots.
Goepfert saw his record fall to 5-5-0 after allowing the three goals on 38 shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-of-2, while Toledo closed out the game 1-of-5.
