Alaska Aces News Release
Bryan Miller scored the overtime game winner 28 seconds into overtime to help the Alaska Aces overcome a three-goal deficit and beat the Utah Grizzlies 5-4 in Salt Lake City on Friday Night. The Aces surrendered the first three goals of the game, but scored five of the final six, led by a pair from Kory Falite, and three point nights from Brian Swanson and Wes Goldie. The Aces record improved to 8-4-1 on the year, 5-1 on the road, and 4-1 in overtime. Alaska and Utah will rematch on Saturday night as the Aces continue their season-long road trip. The Grizzlies took the lead in a physical first period of play. Kevin Deeth darted down the slot and redirected a centering feed through goaltender, Gerald Coleman at 11:01. That stood as the only goal of the period, as the Aces outshot the Grizzlies 13-9 in the period.
The Grizzlies piled onto their lead early in the second period. Tim Crowder scored a power play goal on a backdoor setup at 2:16 to make it 2-0. Then Marcus Carroll added a goal on a two-on-one at 10:11 to make it 3-0. But Aces Coach Brent Thompson called a timeout trying to rally his club, and the Aces responded. Brandon Gentile scored off a faceoff from the left point at 12:13 to get Alaska on the board. Then Mark Isherwood scored his first pro goal on a power play with a one-timer at 17:56. The Aces trailed 3-2 heading into the third.
The Aces continued the comeback into the third as Falite led the way. Falite scored his first pro goal on a three-on-one at 3:08 to tie the score. Just over seven minutes later, Falite struck again to give the Aces their first lead of the night. It was a short lived lead, however, as Utah's Jason Fredricks scored on a rebound 18 seconds later at 10:33 to tie the score 4-4. Miller then ended it 28 seconds into overtime on a power play goal in his return after missing four games.
Gerald Coleman (6-3-1) made 24 saves on 28 shots, earning the win. Andrew Engelage (5-2-2) took the OT loss, with 32 saves on 37 shots. The Aces power play went 2-5, while the Grizzlies went 1-4. The Aces outshot the Grizzlies 37-28 in the game.
The Aces will continue their eight-game road trip with a Saturday night rematch in Salt Lake City. The game can be heard in Alaska on NewsTalk 750AM KFQD, beginning at 4:50pm. The Aces will return home to host the Victoria Salmon Kings on Wednesday, December 8th. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
