NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Pierre Luc-O'Brien scored two goals and added an assist to lead the South Carolina Stingrays to their third win in a row over Gwinnett, 3-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
O'Brien opened the scoring 8:05 into the first, beating goalie Billy Sauer five-hole with a slapshot from past the blueline for a 1-0 South Carolina (6-7-1) lead.
Gwinnett (8-4-3) came back just 1:35 later, as Mike Forney put a low wrist shot past Todd Ford for his fourth of the season with assists to Dan Kissel and Pat Galivan to even the game at one at the end of one.
After a back and forth scoreless second period, South Carolina opened up a two goal lead in the third.
O'Brien struck again, jamming home a rebound on the far post at 3:49 for a 2-1 edge. Jake Hauswirth added another goal on a one-timer in the slot to push the lead to 3-1.
Danick Paquette scored his second of the season with assists to Matt Krug and Pat Galivan to drop the deficit to one at 12:27, but that was as close as the Glads would get. They couldn't convert on a late powerplay and have now gone winless in their last three.
Pat Galivan had two assists to lead the way for Gwinnett, while O'Brien scored twice and also had an assist. Todd Ford picked up his second win in a row making 22 saves, while Billy Sauer stopped 29 shots in the loss.
Both teams combined to go 0-for-13 on the man advantage, with Gwinnett going 0-for-6.
The Gladiators remain tied with the Greenville Road Warriors atop the South Division at 19 points having played one more game, and will face Greenville Sunday at 4:05 pm.
