Indianapolis Indians News Release

ALLENTOWN, PA -- Chris Volstad struck out a season-high seven batters while pitching seven shutout innings, and the Indianapolis Indians blanked the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Saturday evening, 4-0. Volstad cruised through his outing, as he only faced more than four batters in an inning once.

Volstad (4-2) walked just one batter and allowed three hits. He faced five batters in the bottom of the first inning, but proceeded to face the minimum in four of his next six frames. Brad Lincoln worked the eighth inning while Deolis Guerra pitched the ninth frame to complete the shutout.

For a second straight night, Jaff Decker ensured the Indians struck first as he singled home two runs in the top of the first inning. The Tribe would not score again until the top of the seventh, when an error and a hit by Steve Lombardozzi doubled the lead to the game's final margin of 4-0.

Lehigh Valley starter Adam Morgan (0-6) produced a strong outing, working seven innings and allowing two runs. Despite the effort, he was handed his sixth loss of the season.

Indianapolis (34-23) has won five of the six contests against Lehigh Valley (21-36) this season. The Tribe will attempt to win the four-game series on Sunday afternoon; the final time the two clubs will play in the regular season.
