Saskatoon Blades News Release

SASKATOON, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders played the roll of the Grinch on Saturday night, defeating the Saskatoon Blades 4-1 at SaskTel Centre.

This comes one night after the Blades edged Prince Albert 3-2 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The two teams were tightly contested through the first two periods of play with neither team finding the back of the net.

All five markers came in the final frame. Misha Volotovskii sent SaskTel Centre into a furry frenzy midway through the third, scoring the highly-touted Teddy Bear toss goal. That squared the contest at 1-1 at the time, but Prince Albert responded late in the game and added two empty netters.

Tikhon Chaika stopped 26 of 27 shots to earn the game's third star as Prince Albert improves to 12-14-1-1 on the year.

Nolan Maier stopped 22 of 24 shots as the Blades fall to 15-13-1-0 on the campaign.

The Blades and Raiders each played a physical first two periods as both teams couldn't find the back of the net. Maier and Chaika each had 16 saves after two.

The game saw its first goal come from the visiting team 3:57 into third after Landon Kosior put it past Maier to give Prince Albert a 1-0 lead.

But just under two minutes later, the Teddy's took flight. A no-look pass from Lukas Hanson was set up perfectly for rookie Volotovskii who sniped it past Chaika, locking the game 1-1.

The tie was broken with 7:44 to go after Tayem Gislason's shot squeaked through the five hole to put the Raiders back on top 2-1.

The more-than-4000 spectators inside SaskTel Centre thought the home-team scored with the net empty, tying the game, but after a short review, it was deemed no-goal. It came after Brandon Lisowsky jammed away at the puck near the goal line, but Chaika's pad held its own and withstood a mesh of skates and sticks to keep it out.

The Raiders added two empty net goals as in the final two minutes to round out the rest of the scoring.

Saskatoon will now rest up for the next eight days and enjoy the holiday season with family before returning to action on December 27th in Prince Albert. The Blades next home game comes December 28th, hosting the Red Deer Rebels.
