Tri-City Americans News Release
Americans @ Giants
Sunday, December 19 | Langley, BC | Langley Events Centre
Start Time: 2:00 PST
The Americans will wrap up a three-in-three weekend today in a matinee matchup against the Giants.
This is the second in a four game head-to-head series between the two teams. Vancouver took a 3-1 victory in their first game this season in Kennewick. Vancouver native Sasha Mutala opened scoring that night for Tri-City, but the Americans were unable to get past Giants goaltender Jesper Vikman through the remainder of the game. Tomas Suchanek played in net for the Americans, turning aside 33 of 36 shots faced.
Both teams come into tonight's game off a win last night as Vancouver defeated the Cougars 3-1 at home.
Tri-City just played back-to-back games against the Royals in Victoria, falling in overtime on Friday and taking a 6-5 victory in regulation on Saturday.
Last night the Ams jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with goals from Sasha Mutala and Rhett Melnyk. The Royals followed with four straight to take a 4-2 lead by early second period. In just over a minute, Parker Bell and Sam Huo each added a goal to briefly tie the game. The Royals came back with one last goal to take a 5-4 lead into the final frame. Tri-City once again tied the game 7:35 into the period with a goal from Mutala, his second of the night and tenth of the season. The game-changing moment came 9:03 into the third period when Victoria took a double minor for high-sticking Americans forward Connor Bouchard. After struggling on the power play against Victoria this season, the Ams were finally able to cash in on the man-advantage with a goal from Tyson Greenway. The final two goals both came off deflected shots from Lukas Dragicevic. Tri-City outshot Victoria 39-38.
