
Hitmen Fall to Rebels in Overtime

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen came out strong versus the Red Deer Rebels in their last game before holiday break, but came up short in a 3-2 overtime loss.
The tone was set in the first five minutes with Keagan Slaney being ejected with a misconduct, making for a physical match between the two clubs. The Rebels opened up the scoring with a goal from Arshdeep Bains on the two man advantage. Both teams traded penalties through the period but the score remained in favour of the Rebels, until 17:13 when Brandon Whynott netted his third of the season.
A nearly scoreless second period was met with a power play goal from Jayden Grubbe giving the Rebels the lead. Blake Allan had an answer netting his the third of the year on the power play with a feed from Cael Zimmerman, 14:47 into the second.
Despite outshooting the Rebels 49-16, the game went to overtime. Ben King wasted no time finding the back of the net just 0:57 into extra time giving the Rebels the win.
Keagan Slaney played in his 100th WHL career game in today's match vs. the Rebels.
Calgary will enjoy a full eight day holiday break before returning to action on Tuesday, Dec. 28 at home against the Medicine Hat Tigers. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
