Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Stockton, CA - In a Saturday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met in the first game of a two-game set. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin started in net for the Kings while the Thunder countered with Andrew Perugini.

Ryan Huddy gave Stockton a 1-0 lead when he collected his own rebound, after a spectacular toe save by Boutin, and flipped the puck up and over the Kings' netminder. Wes Goldie would tie the game at 1-1 when he took a pass from Dan Gendur and skated down the right side of the ice. Goldie faked a wrist shot that Perugini bit on, and that allowed Goldie to slide the puck past the Stockton netminder. The teams would head to the locker rooms tied at 1-1.

Both teams had chances in a hard hitting second period of play, but the Salmon Kings were the only team able to take advantage. On the power play Wes Goldie picked up the puck inside his own blueline and rushed down the left side of the ice. He cut to the slot and let a shot go. Perugini made the save, but lost control of the rebound, which was picked up and lifted over Perugini for the goal. Victoria led 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Victoria held off the sustained pressure by the Thunder through the period's first 10 minutes. Darryl Lloyd cashed in with his sixth goal of the year to give the Kings a 3-1 lead. Sean O'Connor would add goal number four late in the frame for Victoria. Salmon Kings 4 Thunder 1.

Victoria finished 1/4=25% on the power play, while Stockton finished 0/2=0%. Final shots were 34-31 for the Thunder.

The Salmon Kings and Thunder meet tomorrow afternoon to conclude this two-game set. Puck drop goes at 4:00 p.m. The team returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in the New Year when Bakersfield comes to town for a three game set beginning January 2nd at 7:05 p.m. Call 250-220-7777 for tickets.
