Verbeek's OT Goal Propels Thunder to Bounce Back Victory

BRAMPTON, ON - The Adirondack Thunder snapped their two game losing skid with an overtime winner against the Beast on Sunday afternoon at CAA Centre in Brampton.
After the Thunder got off to a fast-paced start in the game, it was the Brampton Beast who got on the board first. Matt Petgrave carried the puck over the Thunder blueline and ripped a shot over the shoulder of Eamon McAdam for his fifth goal of the season.
Adirondack tied it up at the 13:17 mark of the first period. Nikita Popugaev was sprung on a 2-on-1 by Ara Nazarian and fired the puck bar down behind Evan Fitzpatrick for his second of the season. Both of Popugaev's goals this season have come at the CAA Centre.
Brampton regained the lead at 17:01 when Mathieu Foget deked his way into the offensive zone. A quick pass from Jackson Leef to Erik Bradford resulted in the puck going five-hole on McAdam for Bradford's fourth of the season and the weekend.
The Thunder scored twice early in the second period, one even-strength goal and one shorthanded goal. Matt Salhany picked up his fifth of the season after a pretty passing play between Hayden Verbeek and James Phelan set up Salhany at 3:03.
Jake Linhart took a delay of game penalty a few minutes later and Adirondack cashed in their second shorthanded goal of the season. James Henry forced the puck to Hayden Verbeek who sped his way into the Beast zone and beat Fitzpatrick glove side for his fourth goal of the season at 6:45.
The Beast tied the game in the final minute of the second period. A desperation shot from the blueline by Brenden Miller hit off of McAdam's glove and bounced in. The goal came with just a second left on a Beast man-advantage.
After a scoreless third period, the Thunder and the Beast went to overtime. 58 seconds in, Kelly Summers got the puck on net and Hayden Verbeek forced the puck past Fitzpatrick for the overtime winner. Verbeek's second of the game prevented the three-game sweep for Brampton.
Eamon McAdam made 29 saves on 32 shots and picked up his fifth win of the season. Evan Fitzpatrick stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced in his Beast debut.
Adirondack finished 0-for-1 on the powerplay and killed 2-of-3 Brampton powerplays.

Adirondack faces the Toledo Walleye on Wednesday morning at 10:35am from the Huntington Center in Toledo. This will be the first meeting between the Thunder and the Walleye since October of 2017.
