
Mavs Blowout Thunder 6-2, Complete Weekend Sweep

WICHITA, Ks. - In a continuation of Friday's postponed game, the Kansas City Mavericks put up six goals on the Wichita Thunder in a 6-2 win Sunday afternoon at INTRUST Bank Arena. Forwards Ryan Van Stralen and Darian Dziurzynski netted two goals each and rookie forward Bryan Lemos tallied three assists. The Mavericks return home to Kansas City to face the Thunder Friday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
First Period
-The game continued with 13:31 left in the first and the score tied at 1-1. CJ Eick (4) and Cameron Hebig (4) had the goals for the Mavs and Thunder respectively.
-Ryan Van Stralen (5) gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead with his third goal on the weekend at the 9:14 mark of the first. Neal Goff and Bryan Lemos assisted on the goal.
-Van Stralen (6) picked up his second goal of the game at the 13:07 mark on a stunning individual effort, outmaneuvering multiple Thunder defenders and beating Wichita goaltender Evan Weninger. Bryan Lemos and Zach Osburn assisted on the goal.
-Rocco Carzo (7) tipped home a shot from the point by Cliff Watson on the power play to extend the KC lead to 4-1 at the 15:43 mark. Watson and Justin Woods were given assists on the goal.
-KC made it a 5-1 game when Darian Dziurzynski (7) tipped in a shot in front of the net on the power play at the 17:25 mark. Carzo and Woods assisted on the goal.
Second Period
-Darian Dziurzynski (8) extended the lead to 6-1 with his second power play goal of the game with one minute, 11 seconds left in the second period. Lemos and defenseman Kevin McKernan assisted on the goal.
-The Mavericks outshot the Thunder 14-10 in the period.
Third Period
-Beau Starrett added a late goal with one minute, 27 seconds left in regulation. The goal was unassisted.
Notes & Streaks
-Ryan Van Stralen continued his hot streak and now has four goals in his last two games. He had two goals on the season coming into the weekend.
-The Mavericks five goals were the most scored in a period since November 16 against Rapid City. It was also the first time the Thunder had allowed five goals in a period all season.
-Rookie forward Bryan Lemos set a career high with three assists.
-Darian Dziurzynski recorded a multipoint game for the first time this season.
-Nick Schneider recorded his seventh win of the season, equaling his win total from 2018-19.
-The Mavericks three power play goals were their most in a game this season.
-The Mavericks penalty kill went six-for-six.
-Nick Schneider had 30 saves on 32 shots.
The Mavs return home to Silverstein Eye Centers Arena for a Friday night contest against the Thunder on December 6. Kansas City then welcomes the Fort Wayne Komets on December 7 for Marvel Super Hero Night and annual Teddy Bear Toss. For ticket info, visit ticketmaster.com.
