Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, N.Y. ¬" Alexander Vasyunov had two goals and an assist as the Albany Devils rolled the Adirondack Phantoms, 5-2, Saturday in front of 3,730 at the Times Union Center. Joining the Russian with multiple-point games was Matt Anderson, Alexander Urbom and Steve Zalewski, who each had a goal and an assist.
The Devils (24-33-1-3) take a 4-3 advantage over the Phantoms (20-32-3-6) in the Time Warner Cable Cup series with five games remaining.
"Sometimes you have games where nothing goes in for you and then the next game you score five like what happened tonight," Zalewski said. "I thought the guys did a good job of making sure we buried chances around the net."
Zalewski's goal came with just 25.8 seconds remaining in the second period after Urbom made it 1-1 at 15:22 of the same frame. Zalewski scored on the power play thanks to a quick pass off by Adam Henrique. Urbom had the second helper.
Urbom's goal was a blast from the top of the left face-off circle from Vasyunov and Anderson.
Vaysunov added the team's third goal, cashing in on a rebound at 4:55 of the third period. The power-play goal came with assists going to Brad Mills and Zalewski.
"I think yesterday was a bit of a bad luck," Vasyunov said. "Sometimes it goes like that and you can't score. Today we talked about shooting more and trying to do better."
Adirondack's J.P. Testwuide made it 3-2 at 12:10 of the third, but seemed to spark the Devils offensively because Anderson and Vasyunov scored on wrist shots moments later.
Anderson scored at 13:24 and Vasyunov followed at 15:11.
The Devils finished 2-for-5 on the power-play, while the Phantoms went 0-for-4.
Between the pipes, Mike McKenna made 20 saves on 22 shots for his ninth victory of the season (9-16-0). At the other end, Michael Leighton turned away 35 shots on 40 tries. He is now 6-9-3 with a 0-2-1 record against the Devils.
The Time Warner Cable Cup continues on Sunday, Mar. 6 with a 3 p.m. contest at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Fans can follow the action on 104.5 FM "The Team" ESPN Radio or online at AHLLive.com.
