Rivermen Rally Late to Earn Point Against Moose

After falling behind 3-1, the Peoria Rivermen scored the final two goals of regulation against the Manitboa Moose before dropping a 4-3 shootout decision on Friday night at Carver Arena. Eddie Lack stopped 39 of 42 Rivermen shots but Dave Scatchard tied the game with the Rivermen net empty and only 53.9 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Rivermen (34-23-3-3, 74 pts) now sit in fourth place, one point behind the Texas Stars and seven behind the Milwaukee Admirals for the top spot.

Manitoba jumped out to an early lead scoring at 4:54 of the opening period. Guillaume Desbiens came from behind the net and whipped a turnaround shot along the ice by Jake Allen for his eighth of the year from Alexandre Bolduc and Ryan McGinnis.

The Rivermen tied the game just past the midway point of the first while shorthanded on Dave Spina's 10th of the year. Jake Gannon's waist high slap-shot from the right point was tipped down by Spina through the legs of Manitoba goaltender Eddie Lack. It was the third shorthanded goal of the season for Spina.

Mario Bliznak put the Moose back ahead with just 3:00 to play in the first on his ninth of the season. Aaron Volpatti and Stefan Schneider assisted on the goal that slammed off Allen's mask and rolled behind him.

Keith Seabrook added to the Manitoba lead at 3:43 of the second with his fifth of the year. Cody Hodgson was parked along the left side boards and he sent a pass to Seabrook in the slot who wristed a shot off the glove of Allen and in.

The Rivermen answered right back on the man-advantage with Mark Cundari's ninth of the year from T.J. Hensick and Nathan Oystrick at the 5:55 mark. Hensick made a pass from the half board through traffic to Cundari who collapsed to the bottom of the right circle and Cundari's wrist shot beat Lack glove side high.

Scatchard's goal was his fourth of the season and came following a Mink pass from behind the net. It bounced off the skate of Mark Flood and came right to Scatchard to the side of the net.

The Rivermen killed off Scatchard's goaltender interference minor in the extra session and held the Moose off the board despite collecting five shots.

The Rivermen opted to shoot first and Mink came in and roofed a shot over Lack to open the shootout. Jordan Schroeder responded for the Moose beating Allen and tying the shootout at one. Sergei Shirokov and Derek Nesbitt also tallied for their respective squads, but it was Bill Sweatt scoring the game winner in the seventh round.

The Rivermen outshot the Moose 42-39 in the game and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Rivermen killed off all four Manitoba power plays.
