Rallo lifts Stars past Rampage

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (33-21-4-5, 75 points) defeated the San Antonio Rampage (35-23-3-0, 73 points) 6-5 in overtime Friday night in front of 5,036 fans at Cedar Park Center. Right wing Greg Rallo scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Rampage to supply the Stars with an additional point. Center Aaron Gagnon had a multi-point night, scoring the final regulation goal with 19 seconds left to force overtime. The Stars opened up the first period with four unanswered goals. Ray Sawada netted two, paired with Brandon Segal's tally and Cody Chupp's marker. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus provided an assist on each of the first three Stars goals for a three-point night. The Rampage scored five consecutive goals in the third period. Stars goalie Richard Bachman (22-14-4) stopped 28 shots to preserve the win. San Antonio goalie Matt Climie (22-16-0) stopped 7 of 10 shots and was pulled after 6:10 of play. Rampage goalie Joe Fallon (2-2-0) stopped 21 of 24 shots faced, taking the overtime loss. The Stars host the Houston Aeros at 7:00 PM on Saturday at Cedar Park Center.

Just 17 seconds into the first period, left wing Brandon Segal drove to the net to score the first goal of the night. Center Mathieu Tousignant and defenseman Maxime Fortunus each supplied an assist to give the Stars a 1-0 lead. Texas extended its lead to 2-0 with a redirected shot supplied by right wing Raymond Sawada. Fortunus and left wing Ondrej Roman each tallied an assist on the play at 2:43. The Stars pushed the lead to 3-0 with a goal from Sawada at 6:10. Fortunus and left wing Scott McCulloch each helped on Sawada's second goal of the night and ninth goal of the season. Forward Cody Chupp rounded out the first-period scoring at 12:53 with an assist from left wing Luke Gazdic to end the first 20 minutes of play 4-0 Texas.

After a scoreless second period, San Antonio tallied an early third-period goal at 4:10 from right wing Viktor Tikhonov on the power play for a 4-1 score. Forward Alexandre Picard notched a power-play goal at 6:42 to cut the lead in half at 4-2 Texas. The Rampage rounded out the scoring on the power play with a goal from right wing Mathieu Beaudoin at 7:46 for a 4-3 Stars lead. San Antonio continued the scoring in the third with a goal from center Bracken Kearns at 9:28 to tie the game up 4-4. Defenseman Jonas Ahnelov tallied a late goal for the Rampage with 3:34 remaining to provide San Antonio with its first lead of the night at 5-4. Texas center Aaron Gagnon responded with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation, tying the game back up 5-5 and forcing overtime.

Right wing Greg Rallo scored the game-winning goal on the power play with 2:59 remaining in the extra session. Gagnon and defenseman Dan Spang each tallied an assist to lift the Stars past San Antonio 6-5 in overtime.

The Stars take on the Houston Aeros on Saturday at 7:00 PM. Saturday is Military Appreciation Night and the first 2,500 fans will receive a Texas Stars camouflage hat, sponsored by SportClips. The Stars will also wear military themed jerseys to be auctioned off after the game with proceeds benefiting the Cedar Park Veterans Memorial. Fans may also purchase the State Farm Family Four Pack consisting of four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs for $44. Texas hosts the Syracuse Crunch on Monday at 11:00 AM. Monday is School Field Trip Day, and the first 2,500 fans will receive a Texas Stars pencil pouch presented by Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority. Fans may bring in any H-E-B store brand non-perishable food product to the game to receive $5 off your ticket price. Monday is also a 3-2-1 night. Fans can purchase $3 domestic 12 oz drafts, $2 regular sodas and $1 hot dogs.
