Wichita Wind Surge News Release


Wichita, KS - The Wind Surge offense erupts scoring a season high seven runs and defeats Northwest Arkansas 7-1. The win snapped the season opening five game losing streak.

Spencer Steer led the Surge with a run scoring triple in the first inning and added two-run homer in the third to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Surge put up four more runs in the top of the sixth inning sending eight hitters to the plate. Cole Sturgeon drove in a pair with a double.

Louie Varland earned his first win of the season pitching six dominant innings. Varland kept the Naturals hitters off balance striking out 10 and allowed only two hits.

The Naturals ended the shutout bid in the seventh with Robbie Glendinning's RBI single scoring Sebastian Rivero.

Notes: Spencer Steer extends hit streak to six games .... Austin Martin started at second base and Andrew Bechtold made his first start at catcher. Varland struck out 10 in one game for the fifth time in his career... The Surge has stolen 4 bases in 5 attempts.
