San Antonio Missions News Release

SAN ANTONIO - With a full moon peaking between the clouds at Nelson Wolff Stadium, the Missions aimed to end their three-game losing skid. After trailing 5-0, the Missions comeback attempt fell short as Frisco pulled away with a 7-3 victory. The Missions have now lost four in a row after starting the season 2-1.

It was a pitcher's duel through the early part of Friday night's matchup between the Missions and the RoughRiders. Matt Waldron and Cody Bradford combined to allow just three hits through the first three innings of play. Things changed in the fourth inning as Frisco jumped ahead against the knuckleballer.

The first three batters of the fourth inning all reached for Frisco. Josh Stowers started off the inning with a base hit. Ezequiel Duran followed that up with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Blaine Crim was the next batter and he drove in both runners with a double of his own. After issuing a walk, Waldron was able to record a strike out and induce a double play to end the scoring threat. Frisco held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.

The RoughRiders kept their momentum going and added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Trey Hair led off the inning with a single off Waldron. Pinch hitter David Garcia singled as well. Hair came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Kellen Strahm. The second run of the inning came from a Crim RBI single. Waldron was replaced by Tom Cosgrove following the RBI single. Cosgrove allowed the third run to score after surrendering an RBI single to Dustin Harris.

The Missions began their comeback attempt by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing Frisco starter Cody Bradford, Esteury Ruiz drew a lead-off walk and later stole second base. Ruiz advanced to third base on a double from Robert Podorsky. Tyler Thomas, who was transferred to Frisco prior to tonight's game, came on to pitch and he served up a three-run home run off the bat of Brandon Dixon. The dinger made it a 5-3 Frisco lead heading into the seventh inning.

In the seventh inning the Missions had another scoring opportunity with a chance to take the lead. With one out in the inning, Chris Givin and Chandler Seagle both drew walks to put two runners on base. This led to a pitching change as Frisco manager Jared Goedert called on Fer Ozuna to pitch out of the jam. Ozuna recorded the second out of the inning after striking out Esteury Ruiz. Podorsky loaded the bases after reaching on an infield single. With the bases loaded and two outs, Dixon struck out swinging to end the threat.

The RoughRiders added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning. Facing Henry Henry, Harris doubled to start off the inning. After issuing a walk, Henry was able to retire the next two batters. However, David Garcia drove in Harris with an RBI single. Frisco improved their lead to 6-3. Frisco made it a 7-3 ballgame after a Harris RBI single in the ninth inning.
