WHEELING, West Virginia - Cincinnati Cyclones rookie forward Mark Van Guilder's goal from the top of the goal crease 22 seconds into overtime gave the club a 5-4 win over the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday night. The win was the fourth straight for the Cyclones, who move to within five points of Wheeling for the North Division lead. Van Guilder finished the night with a goal and two assists.

The Cyclones opened the scoring 10:17 into the first period when Dustin Sproat was awarded a penalty shot while being hauled down on a shorthanded breakaway. Sproat collected his fourth by netting a shot just inside the right goal post. Wheeling answered 45 seconds later on the same power play, at 11:02, when Bryan Ewing picked up his 25th goal from Chris Snavely and Tobias Holm. Cincinnati grabbed the lead, 2-1, before the end of the frame when Brandon Scero got his eighth from the slot with assists from Jimmy Kilpatrick and Mark Van Guilder. The Cyclones outshot the Nailer, 13-8, in the opening 20 minutes.

Cincinnati extended the lead to 4-2 with a pair of second period goals. Sproat tipped in his second of the night and fifth of the year from T.J. McElroy and Barret Ehgoetz on the power play at 5:43. Ewing nabbed his second of the night and 26th of the year at 8:49 from Andrew Lord and Erik Johnson. It was Ewing's tenth goal against the Cyclones this season. The two goal lead was restored at 9:37 when Jimmy Kilpatrick re-directed a shot through the goal mouth for his 15th of the season from Ben Gordon and Van Guilder. The shots in the second period also favored Cincinnati, 17-9.

Wheeling scored a pair of third period goals to tie the game at 4-4. A power play goal by Erik Johnson at 9:00, cut the deficit and a score from Ewing, his third of the night with the goaltender pulled with 26 seconds remaining forced the overtime session. The Nailers outshot Cincinnati, 7-6, in the third period.

Ryan Nie improved to 11-0 all-time against Wheeling with 20 saves, while Curtis Darling dropped to 13-9-4 on the year with 32 stops.

The Cyclones are now 20-15-5 on the season, while Wheeling is 22-10-6. The Cyclones are off for the All-Star break. The team is next in action at U.S. Bank Arena for ‘Pink In The Rink' (Women's Health Issues) against Dayton on Friday, January 23, 2009.
