Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, N.J. -- A three-goal second period by the Reading Royals snapped a three-game win streak for the Trenton Devils, who lost 4-2 Saturday night on the road.
Matt Cohen started the scoring 5:22 into the game as he took an Eric Castonguay pass in the slot and fired it past Royals goalie Michael Ouzas for his seventh goal of the season. All of Cohen's goals have been scored on the power play.
The Royals tied the game at 13:48 of the first while on the power play, as Steve Ward shot the puck from the blue line and fluttered it past Charlie Effinger for his fifth goal of the season.
The second period would be dominated by the Royals. Peder Skinner broke the tie at 7:31 as he fired the puck from the right circle on the power play.
Tyler Doig then scored an unusual goal from behind the net at 15:50 to make it 3-1 for the Royals.
The Devils were given a chance to get back in the game on the power play, but could not capitalize as Kirk MacDonald scored a shorthanded goal at 16:38, completing the Royals' big second period.
Thomas Harrison ended the string of four unanswered goals by Reading 2:27 into the third, as he whacked in a rebound from a Dave Leaderer shot. Despite outshooting the Royals 15-8 in the third, Trenton's effort was not enough as they fell to Reading, 4-2.
The Devils return back to Trenton Sunday afternoon to face off against the Elmira Jackals, with the puck drop scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to donate a winter coat at tomorrow's game, and those who do so are entered into a drawing to win a Trenton Devils autographed stick.
