Salmon Kings Fall To Aces

Anchorage, AK -The Victoria Salmon Kings and Alaska Aces met in the second game of their three-game set Friday night in Anchorage. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin started in net for the Kings while the Aces countered with Jean-Philippe Lamoureaux.

Victoria struck first as Dan Gendur received a pass in the slot area from Olivier Filion, who was stationed behind the Aces' net. Gendur one-timed the pass and fired it behind Lamoreaux for the 1-0 lead. The Salmon Kings would go to the locker room leading by that score through one period of play.

The Aces tied the game up when Lance Galbraith tipped a Derick Martin point shot past Boutin. The Salmon Kings would regain the lead when Wes Goldie fired the puck over the right shoulder of Lamoreaux for his 33rd goal of the season. Alaska would then go on a roll by scoring three unanswered goals to end the second. Scott Burt tied the game at 2-2, and 43 seconds later Luke Erickson received a cross ice pass from Galbraith and whistled a shot past Boutin. Cam Keith would stake the Aces to a two goal lead when he beat the Salmon Kings' netminder on a breakaway. Alaska led 4-2 at the end of 40 minutes.

The Salmon Kings cut the lead in half when Darryl Lloyd beat Lamoreaux, but that was as close as Victoria would get. Alaska would add an empty net goal. Aces 5 Salmon Kings 3.

Victoria went 0/4=0% on the power play and Alaska ended 0/2=0%. The Salmon Kings out shot the Aces 28-26.

The Salmon Kings and Aces meet in the finale of this three-game set tomorrow at 8:15 p.m. PT. Victoria then heads to Las Vegas for a three-game set on Jan. 23, 24 and 25. The first two games of that series go at 7:30 p.m. PT and the third game at 2:05 PT. The Stockton Thunder then come to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Jan. 27 & 28 for a two-game set both games go at 7:05 p.m.
