Van Acker, Burrows Traded after 4-0 Loss to Charlotte

GREENVILLE, SC – The Charlotte Checkers skated into South Carolina Tuesday night and left with a 4-0 victory in front of 4,003 at the BI-LO Center. The loss leaves Greenville with 2 wins in their last 13 games.

Following the game, defenseman ERIC VAN ACKER was traded to the Pensacola Ice Pilots (ECHL) for Kevin Bergin and Chad Theuer. Rookie forward ALEX BURROWS was then packaged with Bergin, and the two were dealt to the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) for future considerations.

Nick Bilotto gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead with a powerplay goal at 11:15 of the first period. Second period goals from Kevin Caufield and Takahito Suzuki gave the Checkers a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes. David Evans capped the scoring with his 10th goal of the season in period three, and the Checkers blanked the Grrrowl, 4-0. The Greenville Grrrowl finished their 5-game regular season series against Charlotte with a record of 3-2-0.

Grrrowl starting goaltender DAMIAN RHODES faced 28 shots and allowed 3 goals through two periods. Rhodes suffered the loss, and fell to 0-3-1 since being assigned to Greenville by the National Hockey League's Atlanta Thrashers last Thursday. DAN McINTYRE replaced Rhodes at the start of the third period, and allowed 1 goal on 10 shots. Scott Meyer stopped all 25 shots he faced on the way to his 15th win and 2nd shutout of the season.

The East Coast Hockey League's trading deadline is tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon at 3:00 PM.

The Grrrowl travel to North Charleston Friday night to face the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:30 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD).
