
United For D.C. Charity Luncheon Sold Out

CHANTILLY, VA (March 25, 2004) - United For D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, announced today that the Second Annual First XI Charity Kick-Off Luncheon, to be held on Tuesday, March 30th at 12:00 p.m. at Top of the Town in Arlington, VA, has sold out. Keynote speakers Kevin Payne and Peter Nowak will be joined by emcee Russ Thaler of Comcast SportsNet. Second-year table sponsors include D.C. United, the D.C. Stoddert Soccer League, the Screaming Eagles, Aramark, the United States Soccer Foundation and Comcast SportsNet.
"The support we have received from our donors as well as the fans and sponsors of D.C. United has been amazing," said Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and Community & Fan Relations Director for D.C United. "The success of this luncheon shows that people are learning about the mission of United for D.C. and the value to the community of our programs such as United Reads, Make Sun Safety Your Goal and Kicks for Kids."
This marks the second year United for D.C. has sold out the charity luncheon in advance. D.C. United President & CEO Kevin Payne will speak about D.C. United's plans for a new soccer stadium located in the District of Columbia, and first year D.C. United Head Coach Peter Nowak will talk about the team's preparation for the start of the 2004 MLS season Saturday, April 3rd.
United for D.C. will also host a silent auction, featuring unique items donated by members of United's First XI, by each team within Major League Soccer and by other community-minded organizations. This year's items include a Freddy Adu autographed D.C. United away kit, adidas cleats autographed by Bobby Convey, a team autographed soccer ball signed by the 2003 MLS Cup Champions San Jose Earthquakes and a trip for two to the Wintergreen Ski Resort.
United for D.C. expects to top $20,000 in donations, surpassing last year's total. In addition to the second year table sponsors listed above, new table sponsors for this year's event include Reston Football Club, Active Designs, Regional Title Company, the Knise Family Fund, Arent Fox and GMG Services Corporation.
