D.C. United News Release
CHANTILLY, VA (March 25, 2004) - D.C. United announced the club's second friendly match of the 2004 season today, as they will take on the A-League's Rochester Raging Rhinos in a friendly at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY. Set for a 7:35 p.m. ET kick-off, the game marks the third time United has squared off against the Rhinos, with United coming away victorious in both prior meetings.
"The Rochester Rhinos have a rich soccer history and a knowledgeable and dedicated fan base from throughout upstate New York," said United President and CEO Kevin Payne. "D.C. United is looking forward to playing this exhibition match."
Rochester has long been an A-League power, having qualified for the playoffs every season since their inception in 1996. The Raging Rhinos are also the only non-MLS team to have captured the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in the current era, as they defeated MLS' Colorado Rapids 2-0 to take the 1999 title.
The game also marks a homecoming for United M Dema Kovalenko. Kovalenko is a 1996 graduate of Greece Arcadia High School, and was named the 1995 All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year.
