Galaxy sign Thompson and Aloisi to developmental contracts
March 25, 2004 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, CA (Thursday, March 25, 2004) - The Los Angeles Galaxy have signed defenders Scot Thompson and Chris Aloisi to developmental contracts for the 2004 season, Galaxy President/General Manager Doug Hamilton announced today. Thompson and Aloisi both departed with the team on Wednesday for Cary, NC and the club's final preseason matches against the Syracuse Salty Dogs (A-League) on March 25 and the Kansas City Wizards on March 27 at SAS Soccer Park.
"Scot and Chris have each proven themselves worthy of a spot on our club with their play during pre-season," said Hamilton. "They will help improve our depth and provide competition for positions as well as having a positive impact on our club throughout the entire 2004 MLS campaign."
Thompson, 23, was a second-round pick for the Galaxy in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft after completing his collegiate career at UCLA. However, the 6-0 180-pound defender tore the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a pre-season match and was forced to sit out the entire 2003 MLS season.
At UCLA, Thompson, a Rancho Santa Margarita resident, was named to the All Pac-10 first team during his senior year after being named an honorable all-conference selection in his sophomore and junior seasons. Additionally, he has taken part in U.S. Under-23 national team training camps in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
"Scot and Chris are primarily defenders, but also possess the versatility to play in several different positions in the back, which is something that we are very excited to have available to us off the bench," said Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid.
The 23-year-old Aloisi was the Galaxy's sixth and final selection in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft (57th overall) after playing college soccer for Syracuse University. The 5-10 160-pound defender was an All-Big East Conference third team selection during his junior and senior seasons with the Orangemen.
The North Babylon, New York native also earned praise during his freshman season at Syracuse, earning Big East All-Rookie Team honors after a campaign in which he appeared in 19 games, making 17 starts and scoring two goals.
Los Angeles Galaxy tickets are now on sale for games throughout the 2004 MLS season at The Home Depot Center, which begins with a match on Saturday April 3 against the New England Revolution.
