Philadelphia Union News Release
COLUMBUS, Oh. - The Philadelphia Union fell to Columbus Crew SC on the road on Wednesday night, ending a seven-game undefeated streak in an Eastern Conference showdown. Alejandro Bedoya tested Eloy Room early from distance before Brenden Aaronson sliced into the box for a close-range effort and Mark McKenzie's left-footed shot was cleared off the line by Darlington Nagbe. The Union continued to create chances in the second half, with Sergio Santos going close in the 68th minute and Kacper Przybylko drawing a yellow card on Jonathan Mensah. Columbus' Lucas Zelarayan scored in the 55th minute by pinging a shot that deflected off McKenzie and looped over Andre Blake into the top corner of the net. Ilsinho, Andrew Wooten, and Anthony Fontana could not create an equalizing goal off the bench. The Union went toe-to-toe with another top Eastern Conference club and came up just short. They return to action on September 6 for a matchup in Red Bull Arena with New York Red Bulls (7:00 p.m. ET / PHL17).
