Erik Sorga's goal in the final moments of extratime gave D.C. United (2-4-3, 9 pts) the victory over the New York Red Bulls (3-4-2, 11 pts), 1-0 on Wednesday night at Red Bull Arena.
New York held advantages in ever offensive category, shots, 17-5, shots on goal, 4-3, corners, 12-5, passing accuracy, 78% to 69%, possession, 58.6% to 41.4%.
Goalkeeper Ryan Meara suffered his first loss at Red Bull Arena in an MLS regular-season match, falling to 6-1-3. Meara tallied two saves on three chances in the match.
Meara has allowed one goal or fewer in 17 of 27 MLS regular-season matches.
Massapequa, New York native Sean Nealis made his first start of 2020, as he filled in for the suspended Tim Parker. Nealis made a crucial save in the 52nd minute to keep the scoreless draw.
Forward Tom Barlow tied his single-game highs in shots (5) and shots on target (3) in the first 35 minutes of the match.
