Two-Out Trouble Dooms Dodgers

Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Nashville, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds scored seven of their eight runs with two outs, sending the Oklahoma City Dodgers to an 8-5 loss Sunday night at First Tennessee Park.

The Sounds (49-51) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Jorge Mateo hit a RBI double to start the scoring. Later in the inning with runners at second and third base and two outs, J.P. Sportman hit a fly ball to shallow left field. Andrew Toles dove for the ball, as it went in and out of his glove, resulting in a two-run double.

Nashville added two more runs in the third inning. Dodger starting pitcher Manny Bañuelos retired the first two batters, but then walked Anthony Garcia for the second time. Sheldon Neuse followed with a two-run homer, extending the lead to 5-0.

The Dodgers (54-44) went deep in the fourth inning when Kyle Farmer hit a solo blast to left field for his fifth home run of the season.

OKC was able to get back within two runs in the fifth inning. A RBI groundout by Edwin RÃ-os and a sacrifice fly by Farmer cut Nashville's lead to 5-3.

However, the Dodgers could not contain the Sounds in the bottom of the inning. Neuse came through with another big hit, delivering a two-run double with two outs to push the advantage back to four runs.

The Dodgers again battled back to trim the deficit to two. Connor Joe hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, and a sacrifice fly by RÃ-os in the seventh made it a 7-5 game heading to the seventh inning stretch.

But the Sounds tallied one more two-out run for good measure in the bottom of the inning, this time coming on a bloop RBI single by Garcia.

The Dodger never got the tying run to the plate over the final two innings before falling by the three-run margin.

The Dodgers outhit the Sounds, 10-8, but went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Farmer, Toles and Angelo Mora each finished with two hits, and Farmer and RÃ-os notched two RBI apiece.

Nashville starting pitcher James Naile beat the Dodgers for the first time in four career starts and earned his first win since June 6. Over 6.1 innings, Naile (6-9) allowed five runs (three earned) and nine hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.

On the other side, it was a rough night for Bañuelos (8-5), who surrendered a season-high seven runs. The Sounds got the southpaw for six hits, and four went for extra bases. He walked three and struck out eight.

After taking the first two games of the series, the Dodgers had to settle for a split in the four-game set and have lost back-to-back games for the first time since the All-Star Break. Nashville won the season series against Oklahoma City for just the second time in the last eight seasons, winning nine of 16 meetings throughout 2018.

The Dodgers have the day off Monday and return home Tuesday to begin a seven-game homestand starting with the Albuquerque Isotopes at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 405-218-2100, through okcdodgers.com or by visiting the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark box office on South Mickey Mantle Drive.

Live radio coverage of Tuesday's game begins 15 minutes before first pitch on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free iHeartRadio mobile app.
