Rainiers Fall To Bees 3-2, Drop Sixth Straight

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (51-50) fell in the series finale to the Salt Lake Bees (54-47) by a final score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium.

Outfielder Ian Miller paced the offense, finishing the afternoon 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and two walks. Right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis (1x2, R, 2B, 2 BB) also reached base three times. Catcher Cameron Rupp (1x5, RBI) and third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean (1x3, RBI) both drove in runs.

Tacoma starter Bryan Evans posted a strong outing, ultimately logging his third quality start of the year. He worked six innings for the Rainiers and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out five with no walks. He did not factor into the decision.

The Rainiers used five relievers to cover the remaining three innings - Mike Morin (0.1 IP) and Daniel Schlereth (0.0 IP) each allowed one run. Darin Gillies (0.2 IP), Ryan Garton (1.0 IP), and Tyler Higgins (1.0 IP) all posted scoreless outings and combined for three strikeouts.

Tacoma enjoys an off day on Monday before heading to Round Rock for a three-game series against the Express. The Rainiers will start right-hander Christian Bergman (6-7, 4.95) opposite Express left-hander Michael Roth (4-3, 4.61).
