Bees Take Down Tacoma in Extras

July 22, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees scored a run in the tenth inning to edge the Tacoma Rainiers 2-1 on Saturday night.

Ben Revere was the courtesy runner at second base to start the tenth. He advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Francisco Arcia and scored on a ground out to first by Nolan Fontana. In the bottom of the tenth, Tacoma's Ian Miller started at second, but never advanced, as Salt Lake reliever Akeel Morris retired the next three batters to record his fourth save of the season. Ivan Pineyro earned the win with four scoreless innings, as he allowed just one hit with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Rainiers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Salt Lake starter Griffin Canning, but the Bees tied it up in the top of the second. With one out, Eric Young, Jr. and Revere delivered back to back singles and Arcia was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs, Luis Rengifo drew a bases loaded walk to deadlock the game at 1-1. Canning went five innings and gave up just one run on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk. The Bees were able to win the game, despite having four Tacoma pitchers retire the last nineteen batters they faced. Rengifo went 0 for 4 to snap his eight game hitting streak. Arcia doubled in the fourth and has now hit safely in five consecutive games. The win keeps the Bees in a tie for first with El Paso in the Pacific Southern Division.
