Salt Lake Bees News Release

Four Salt Lake pitchers combined to throw a five hit shutout, as the Bees blanked the Tacoma Rainiers 6-0 on Friday night.

After Angels' reliever Jim Johnson threw a scoreless first inning on an injury rehab assignment, Dylan Unsworth pitched a strong five innings to earn the win. Unsworth (5-0) allowed just two hits and struck out eight to earn the win. Miguel Almonte worked a scoreless seventh inning and Greg Mahle went the final two innings and escaped a bases loaded, no outs situation in the ninth inning to preserve Salt Lake's second shutout of the season. The win, combined with El Paso's loss to Sacramento, pulls the Bees into a tie for first in the division with the Chihuahuas.

Salt Lake broke a 0-0 tie with four runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Matt Thaiss walked, Taylor Ward singled and both scored on a two out double by Jared Walsh. Kaleb Cowart followed with a double to bring home Walsh and Cowart came home on a single by Nolan Fontana. The Bees would add one more in the sixth on an RBI single by Dustin Ackley and Cowart capped off the scoring with a solo homer in the eighth. Walsh and Cowart led Salt Lake's offense, as they each delivered two hits and two runs batted in. Ackley added a pair of hits and one RBI, as the Bees have now won five of the six games they've played in Tacoma this season.
