Salem Red Sox News Release
Salem, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, had seven straight batters reach--four of which scored-in the seventh inning Friday night on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. The Avs used that frame to drop Myrtle Beach4-3 in game two of a three-game series.
Salem trailed 3-0 as the seventh started against lefty hurler Jonny Venters. The Myrtle Beach pitcher had surrendered just three hits in sixinnings. He opened the seventh with a strikeout of Tim Torres and apopout off the bat of Mitch Einertson. With those two down, Orlando Rosales bounced a ball to third base that Eric Campbell threw into the dirt past first baseman Kala Ka'aihue. Rosales was at second when newcomer Chris Johnson doubled to left field. That made the score 3-1. After Mark Ori walked, Billy Hart volleyed the first pitch he saw from Venters into left field to score Johnson and slice the lead to one. With two on, Jose Lopez batted a two-run single that handed the Avs the lead for good.
Myrtle Beach snared the lead in the fourth against Raymar Diaz. Center fielder Jordan Schafer singed a double to left to lead the frame off. After Elvis Andrus bounced to shortstop, Eric Campbell pushed Schafer home with a single past third. It was his third RBI in the past two nights. The next batter, Ka'aihue, delivered a towering two-run homer over the left field fence to swell the lead to three.
Salem's Enyelbert Soto earned the win in the game. He and Ryan McKeller combined for three innings and a third of scoreless baseball in Salem's first victory of the second half.
For the Avs, Lopez finished the night two-for-three and now has seven hits in 15 at-bats against the Pelicans. Johnson's RBI double was his first Carolina League hit after being promoted from Low-A Lexington earlier in the day.
