Indians top Lynchburg in second half opener

The Kinston Indians started the second half of the season with a bang, beating Lynchburg 10-4 Thursday night in Virginia. Kinston coasted with 14 hits, improving to 15-3 in the month of May. Stephen Head's three-run home run, his 12th of the season, got Kinston off to a good start in the first inning. Head went 2-for-5 and has now hit a homer in three of his last four games. Kinston added a run in the third inning with an RBI single from John Drennen. Leading

4-3 through four, Kinston broke loose in the top of the fifth. The K-Tribe batted around as the first six batters of the inning reached base safely. RBI by Drennen and Hodges gave Kinston a 7-3 lead they wouldn't let go of. Hodges hit streak is now at 18 games after a 3-for-5 night. Chris De La Cruz went 3-for-3 with three walks and four runs scored, reaching base in all six plate appearances. Jose Constanza was 3-for-6 with three runs scored.

Kinston starter Kevin Dixon (4-3) won his third game in his last four starts. Dixon went seven innings, scattering seven hits and three earned runs. Erik Stiller and Scott Roehl each pitched a scoreless inning from the bullpen. The Hillcats Clayton Hamilton (2-5) took the loss for Lynchburg. Kinston will play game two of the three game series at 7:05 Friday night in Lynchburg, Virginia. Sung-Wei Tseng will take the mound for the K-Tribe.
