Sung Wei-Tseng (1-5, 3.80)
* Sung Wei-Tseng finally picked up his first victory of the season, a day after Kinston clinched the first half title last week. Coming into that game, the K-Tribe had scored a total of only 20 runs (12 starts) when Tseng was on the mound. Tseng went six innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs in the win against Lynchburg. In two games Tseng has given up just two earned runs against the Hillcats. Tseng had the sixth lowest ERA in the League for the month of May. A 2.38 mark in six starts. He also led the league in May strikeouts with 32. Tseng was the # 1 starter for the Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) National. The 5-11 right-hander pitched at the collegiate level for the National Taiwan College of Physical Education in 2005 and 2006 where he was a combined 14-0 over the two seasons and was named Taiwan's Amateur Pitcher of the Year in 2006.
Tribe Talk...
Big Max Attack - K-Tribe catcher Max Ramirez has just been selected to the World Roster for the All Star Futures Game to be played in San Francisco during the Major League All-Star Break on Sunday, July 8th. The futures game puts 50 Minor Leaguers, representing 12 countries and all 30 organizations on two different teams (World and USA) to battle it out during the Major League All Star Break. Former K-Tribe pitcher Chuck Lofgren (now with AA Akron) has also been selected to pitch for the USA team. The game will air on ESPN 2.
Streak Continues - Wes Hodges extended his hitting streak to 18 games last night, the longest on the team this season and now the second longest in the Carolina League this year. Potomac's Marcos Yepez had a 24 game streak come to an end on June 6th. Hodges also has a 21 game consecutive on base streak going, the longest on the team this season. Wes is now hitting .333, the second best batting average in the Carolina League.
Walk this Way - Kinston leads the Carolina League with 305 walks this season (4.4 per game). Chris Gimenez has been taking a lot of free passes lately; walking 10 times in the last four games....this combined with his .287 batting average has his second in the league with a .427 on base percentage. Max Ramirez leads the Carolina League with 43 walks on the season; Max is third in the league with a .421 on base percentage.
Or Maybe Run - Chris De La Cruz went 3-for-3 with four runs and three walks last night. De La reached base in all six of his at bats. De La is the only K-Triber to score more than three runs in a cam this year. Combined with leadoff man Jose Constanza, the Dominican Duo went 6-for-9 with seven runs scored, three walks and two stolen bases.
View From the Top - Kinston stays in first place in the Carolina League Southern Division, where they have been since April 30th. Kinston has not been in first place a total of just 16 days this season; they have never been more than 1.5 games out of the top spot.
Hard Hitting - In Kinston's last 20 games (17 wins), the K-Tribe has racked up nine or more hits in 16 of the contests, whacking a total of 220 hits while scoring 151 runs (averaging 11 hits and 7.5 runs per game). Kinston leads the league, scoring 391 total runs this year and is second in the league with 644 hits (averaging 9 hits and 5.5 runs this season).
