Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - First Arena proudly announces that the April 18th appearance by Larry the Cable Guy in Elmira is sold out. Setting an arena record for the quickest sellout, tickets went on sale Friday, March 8, at 10 a.m. and were gone with twenty-four hours. Seating capacity is listed at 4,900 seats for this concert in-the-round configuration (stage in the center of the seating area).
"I knew that this show would be big, but the response by the Elmira market blew me away," said First Arena general manager Robbie Nichols. "Larry's booking agency expected the show to sell out within a week so they must be pleasantly surprised how quickly tickets were snapped up."
This past weekend, First Arena hosted the annual Evening of Irish Music and Dance Friday with over 1,000 fans turning out for the event while close to 3,500 concert-goers braved Saturday's ice storm to take in performances by Christian recording artists tobyMAC, Jeremy Camp and Matthew West.
"The goal of any successful venue is to provide a range of events that appeal to different segments of the market," Nichols said. "That's been a challenge in previous years, but with the weekend's events and the sales success of Larry the Cable Guy, we'd like to think we're starting to turn the corner here."
The building's anchor tenant, the Elmira Jackals, continues to enjoy success on the ice and at the box office in their inaugural season in the ECHL. The club secured its first playoff berth in four years this past weekend and has played to nearly 95% capacity (3,583 fans per opening) through their first 28 home games. The Jackals have eight regular season home games remaining at First Arena before the Kelly Cup playoffs begin on the second weekend of April.
