BOMBERS NOTES
SO THERE WAS THIS ROAD TRIP...: After opening their seven game road trip 2-1-0 against North Division squads Elmira and Reading, the Bombers were just 1-3-0 in their contests against the South Division. They opened the week with a 3-1 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays. Scoring for Dayton were Ryan MacGregor and Scott Kelman, who had two goals on the night. On Thursday in Charlotte, Greg Labenski netted a power play goal from Mike Walsh and newly-acquired forward Josh Sciba added an unassisted score in the Bombers 5-2 loss to the Checkers. In Columbia on Friday Brad Bonello opened scoring for the Bombers on a breakaway against the Inferno. Mike Walsh also added a goal, however, the Bombers fell 4-2. Wrapping up the road trip with a second game against the Checkers the Bombers played on top for nearly the entire game. Josh Sciba scored his ninth goal of the season on the power play from Mike Berry and Chris Eade in the first period. Sciba was also awarded a penalty shot in the second period but Checkers goalie Chris Holt denied the shot. Dayton's 1-0 lead would stand until the 5:00 mark of the third when Charlotte was also awarded a penalty shot and scored their first goal of the game. The Bombers were unable to capitalize on another opportunity despite outshooting the Checkers 35-30 and were defeated 3-1.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN: Bombers captain Greg Labenski had a four game point streak broken up on Saturday at Charlotte. He tallied three assists and one goal during his streak.
REJ ROCKS: Bombers netminder Rejean Beauchemin is still going strong, winning four of his last five starts. Since February 16 Beauchemin has gone 4-1-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .945 save percentage. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native was 1-1-0 last week with a 2.54 GAA and .969 save percentage after picking up a 3-1 win at South Carolina and a 4-2 defeat in Columbia.
MULTI-TASKING: Centerman Scott Kelman had his first multi-goal game of the season on Tuesday night at South Carolina when he picked up two goals in the Bombers 3-1 victory over the Stingrays. His first of the game came in the first period from Greg Labenski and Chris Eade, while his second of the night (and ninth of the season) was unassisted. This was Kelman's seventh multi-point game of the season.
SAY HELLO TO JOSH SCIBA: The Bombers acquired forward Josh Sciba from Las Vegas at the trade deadline last week and he made his presence known immediately. Meeting the team in Charlotte, North Carolina for their Thursday night game against the Checkers, Sciba tallied an unassisted goal in the third period. In the Bombers second game at Charlotte on Saturday Sciba again found the back of the net, this time from Mike Berry and Chris Eade.
WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM EADE: Dayton defenseman Chris Eade has been lending a hand lately. He has tallied three assists in the Bombers last four games and picked up a goal earlier in the month as well. To date, Eade has 6 goals and 11 assists for the Bombers, ranking third amongst active defensemen.
FOLLOW THE LEADER: Rookie All-Star Matt Beaudoin is still leading the league in goals scored (34)! The Ohio State alum has 62 points (34g, 28a) on the season, ranking 8th overall and 5th among rookies. He's also tied for second in power play goals (13) and tied for 3rd in game winning goals (6).
WITH HONORS: Bombers goaltender Jeremy Duchesne was named runner-up for the Rookie of the Month award for February after going 2-0-3 with a 2.06 GAA and .937 save percentage. He was 12/17 in three shootouts, including a 4-of-5 performance in the Bombers 4-3 win over Elmira on February 29.
