Twin Cycles Down Pigs in Indy

August 7, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

The Indianapolis Indians jumped out an 8-0 lead in Tuesday's 12-5 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Joey Meneses homered for his IL leading 22nd time and is now batting .316 with 71 RBIs.

Kevin Newman and Jacob Stallings each hit for the cycle in the Indians' victory.

Cole Irvin (10-4) was tagged for six runs, five earned over five innings. He scattered nine hits and struck out four. The IronPigs used three relievers in the game with Tyler Gilbert, Edubray Ramos and Jake Thompson each providing an inning of relief.

The big inning for the Indians came in the bottom of the sixth. Already leading 2-0, Indianapolis plated six runs in the frame to take the 8-0 lead. Irvin was lifted with no outs and the bases loaded and the Indians rattled off four straight hits to clear the bases.

The Pigs chipped away in the top of the seventh against Tyler Eppler (12-5). Meneses' home run started a five-run inning highlighted by former Indian Danny Ortiz's pinch-hit two-run single to pull the Pigs back into the game.

Five of the Pigs nine hits came in the seventh inning.

Indianapolis responded with four more runs in the next two innings to put the game out of reach.

With the win, the IL West-leading Indians maintain their 3.5-game lead in the IL West and the league's third-best record -- seven games behind Lehigh Valley.

The Pigs and Indians have a quick turn around tomorrow afternoon with a 1:35 p.m. first pitch from Victory Field. Drew Anderson takes the hill against Nick Kingham.
